Dr. Stephen M. John is a native of Illinois and was raised in Augusta, GA during his teenage years. For his undergraduate education he attended the University of Houston with an academic scholarship and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which included clinical externships at the Birmingham VA Medical Center in Alabama, The Marietta Eye Clinic in Marietta, GA and the North Shore Eye Center in Evanston, IL. His training included primary care, pediatrics, contact lenses, pre and post-operative patient care for procedures such as cataract surgery and LASIK, trauma management, and ocular disease, including diabetes and glaucoma patient education.
After receiving his doctorate, Dr. John completed a residency affiliated with The Ohio State University in ocular disease at the Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center in Columbus, OH and the Chillicothe VA Medical Center in Chillicothe, OH. As a part of his residency he served as a clinical instructor at The Ohio State University College of Optometry.
Dr. John’s professional affiliations include the American Optometric Association (AOA), Georgia Optometric Association (GOA), the Cornea and Contact Lens Section of the AOA, the Sports Vision Section of the AOA, and InfantSEE.
